    Key Stage 1

Welcome to Key Stage 1! This stage covers Years 1 and 2, where we build upon the foundations laid in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our focus is on providing a seamless transition from play-based learning to a more structured curriculum, while ensuring that the learning environment remains nurturing, creative, and engaging.

We follow the National Curriculum, which is brought to life through exciting, cross-curricular projects. This approach allows pupils to make connections between subjects, deepening their understanding and making learning more meaningful. For example, a project on the local area might combine geography, history, and art.

Our core priorities in Key Stage 1 are to:
    • Foster a Love of Reading: We continue to develop pupils' reading skills through phonics, guided reading sessions, and by encouraging them to read for pleasure.
    • Strengthen Core Skills: We focus on building a strong foundation in English and Mathematics, using a variety of hands-on activities and online resources like Doodle Learning and Times Tables Rock Stars.
    • Build Independence and Confidence: We encourage pupils to become more independent learners and to take responsibility for their own actions. We celebrate their unique strengths and help them build confidence to tackle new challenges.

By the end of Key Stage 1, our goal is for all pupils to be confident readers and writers, to have a solid grasp of mathematical concepts, and to be curious, well-rounded individuals ready for the next stage of their education.
