The Story of You: Best Start in Life DFE Video

In July 2025, the UK Government launched a new strategy called “Best Start in Life”, aiming to help more children thrive and to give every child the strongest possible foundation before they start school. By 2028, the government aims for 75% of children in England to reach a “Good Level of Development” (GLD) by age 5. This means children are ready to learn, play, and grow with confidence when they begin school.

This strategy builds on previous initiatives like Sure Start and Family Hubs, but introduces a more unified, mission-driven approach under the current government’s “Opportunity Mission” framework.  For full details, you can explore the official guidance on Best Start in Life

    What’s Changing?

    • More Support for Families: Family Hubs will be expanded across the country and will act as “one-stop-shops” – local centres where you can access parenting advice, health services, and early years support—all in one place.
    • Joined-Up Services: Schools, health visitors, nurseries, and local councils will work more closely together to support children’s development, with a focus on early identification of needs and timely intervention.
    • Focus on Early Help: The strategy encourages identifying any challenges early—whether speech, social skills, or emotional wellbeing—so children get help sooner.
    • Local Plans: Councils will create a “Best Start Plan” to improve outcomes in their area, with clear targets and accountability.

What This Means for Our School

We’ll continue working closely with families and local services to ensure every child is supported from the moment they start with us.  You may see:

    • More opportunities to connect with Family Hubs and early years professionals.
    • Stronger links between school and health services.
    • New ways to help you support your child’s learning and development at home.
