Key Stage 2 

Welcome to Key Stage 2, which covers Years 3, 4, 5, and 6. This is a crucial phase of primary education where we build upon the foundational skills of Key Stage 1 and prepare pupils for the next stage of their education. Our curriculum is designed to be challenging, engaging, and creative, fostering a love of learning that will last a lifetime. 

We follow the National Curriculum and bring it to life through exciting, cross-curricular projects. This approach allows pupils to make connections between subjects, making learning more meaningful. By the end of this stage, our goal is for all pupils to be confident, independent, and resilient learners, with a strong grasp of core academic skills. 

Our Curriculum 

In Key Stage 2, there is a strong emphasis on core subjects, while still providing a rich and broad education. 

• English: We focus on developing a deeper understanding of reading, writing, and spoken language. Pupils are encouraged to read a wide range of genres, analyse texts, and write for different purposes. 
• Mathematics: Pupils build on their numerical fluency and begin to tackle more complex concepts, including fractions, decimals, and geometry. We emphasise problem-solving and reasoning skills. 
• Science: We encourage curiosity and scientific thinking through hands-on investigations and projects. Pupils learn about topics like living things, forces, and the Earth and space. 
• Wider Curriculum: Our curriculum includes a wide range of subjects, such as History, Geography, Art, Design & Technology, Music, and Physical Education. We also introduce a modern foreign language (French). 

Assessment 

Throughout Key Stage 2, pupil progress is continually monitored through ongoing teacher assessments. In Year 4, pupils take the Multiplication Tables Check, which assesses their fluency with times tables up to 12x12. At the end of Year 6, pupils sit the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum Tests, often known as SATs. These tests assess pupils in English Reading, English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, and Mathematics. The results are used to inform secondary schools and help us measure our performance.
